The Shield | St. Andrew Presbyterian Church
Pastor's Column
We had a terrific time at St. Andrew Sunday-in worship, in the Fellowship Hall after worship preparing food bags for Kids Against Hunger, and in the hallways collecting food and money for Souper Bowl of Caring. Besides moving through worship in 29 minutes (if that was your favorite part of Sunday, please do not tell me!), we approached our Lord's Table while Rachel Nyetam (Stephen Carey accompanied) sang a beautiful rendition of "Give Me Jesus." Wow! Then, we moved to the Fellowship Hall and packed 19,000 (yes, 19,000) bags of meals to be distributed in places where people are in dire need of healthy food (in past years, our bags have gone to Haiti, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and even Ft. Worth). The energy and sounds of St. Andrew at work filled the room as members and visitors put on hair nets, filled the bags, and then loaded the truck with the completed bags (some of us truck loaders were not in hair nets!). In case being fed at the Table and filling food bags to feed people around the world was not enough, the youth collected food and money for the Souper Bowl offering. St. Andrew donated $424, forty-one cans of food, thirty-eight pounds of sugar, three large containers of Ranch dressing, and two large cans of salsa (where else but Texas!) to Our Daily Bread.  It was a day of feeding, being fed, and giving the opportunity for others to be fed as we were blessed and sought to bless others. If you were here Sunday, I believe you could testify that "our God is an awesome God."

Yours in Christ,

Richard
Worship Through Work a Big Success
The members of the Mission Committee would like to thank and congratulate those people who participated in last Sunday's Worship Through Work project. The group from Kids Against Hunger commented several times about how hard and fast the group worked. We packed over 19,000 meals in about an hour and one half. Some of those those meals will be distributed to food pantries in the DFW area; the others will be shipped to various locations in Mexico to help with their hunger issues. It was wonderful to see so many people of a large span of ages working together to fight hunger.
Parents' Night Out
Spring Dates:

Parents' Night Out is a program for the young families of St. Andrew. Children in Kindergarten to 5th grades are welcome to attend from 4:00pm to 9:00pm in the gym for recreation. We ask parents to make reservations no later than Thursday, the week of PNO. Please email Ms. Sue, toddlerqueen2@gmail.com, or call at (940)300-9262, for reservations.

Grateful:  The Transformative Power of Giving Thanks
Wednesdays at Noon

Book cost: $18, Available in the Narthex
If gratitude is good, why is it so hard to do? In Grateful, Diana Butler Bass untangles our conflicting understandings of gratitude and sets the table for a renewed practice of giving thanks. We know that gratitude is good, but many of us find it hard to sustain a meaningful life of gratefulness. Four out of five Americans report feeling gratitude on a regular basis, but those private feelings seem disconnected from larger concerns of our public lives. In Grateful, cultural observer and theologian Diana Butler Bass takes on this "gratitude gap" and offers up surprising, relevant, and powerful insights to practice gratitude. With honest stories and heartrending examples from history and her own life, Bass reclaims gratitude as a path to greater connection with god, with others, with the world, and even with our own souls. It's time to embrace a more radical practice of gratitude-the virtue that heals us and helps us thrive. Come join us!
Women's Retreat
Friday, March 1-Saturday, March 2
Prothro Retreat Center
Made for Relationship, Wired for Difference
Scripture reminds us that we are created in God's own image and 'fearfully and wonderfully made' as unique creations. Join us as we learn more about what makes each of us tick... and what sets our heads spinning with frustration.  We will use the Myers Briggs Personality Assessment to explore 16 personality types and the gifts and challenges that accompany each type... most especially our own and those we love.
The presenter for the retreat is Mary Marcotte, a Certified Christian Educator and a retired Associate General Presbyter in New Covenant Presbytery. She now lives in Dallas.  In her over 25 years of service in the church, she has been a well-regarded teacher, leader and retreat facilitator at the local and regional level.

Donations Needed for The Children's Place Annual Fundraiser
As many of you are aware, the Children's Place is a nonprofit preschool here at St. Andrew. Our school serves approximately 100 children (ages 1-6 years) in our loving, Christian, child-centered enrichment program.  Since we are a nonprofit organization, we face a special challenge to replace and upgrade equipment and materials and make up for any deficits in our annual operating budget.  Our annual silent auction, held in conjunction with a dinner, is the primary fundraiser that supports this effort. We appreciate any monetary donation/sponsorship, a product, service or gift certificate for the upcoming fundraiser.  If you are able to donate, please contact Sara Armstrong at 940-453-7046, or the school director, Brenna Newman, at 940-367-7716.  Mark your calendars and plan on attending the dinner and auction as well! February 28 at 5:30pm in Fellowship Hall.
St. Andrew Connect
Changes to St. Andrew Connect Communication
St. Andrew Connect was recently updated, and some aspects of communicating with your group will look different. Even with those differences, things are basically staying the same.
When trying to reach your entire group, please post to the News Feed. You can do this by using the "Send Communication" button on your group page and selecting "Create a Post" under "Post to Newsfeed" in the popup menu that follows. Notification of your post will still go out via email to your group members. Group members will be able to respond to the post online or through the app.
Another change to St. Andrew Connect is that the messages function has been relabeled "Chat." Use this functionality like you would text messaging--bits of information that you need to get out fast. Remember that users will be notified of these messages by notification if they use the app, but will not receive an email about them.
Want to know more about St. Andrew Connect? Do you need an invite? Contact Lou Korom, lou@saint-andrew.com.
