Hopefully you have already seen information about the Chili Cook Off happening on Sunday, November 4. The Chili Cook Off is one of three fundraisers held by the youth group throughout the year. But why, you may be wondering, does the youth group need to raise funds??? These fundraisers--the Chili Cook Off, the spring Garage Sale, and the BBQ and baked goods auction in May--assist our youth in covering the costs of the trip opportunities available to them throughout the year. These opportunities include:
- Senior High Youth Connection (SHYC)-Held each year during a weekend in late January/early February, SHYC is an opportunity for high school students to gather with other youth from Grace Presbytery at Austin College in Sherman for music, worship, and other small group activities. This event is planned in part by the Austin ACtivators, whom we met recently at Fall Festival of Faith.
- Synod Youth Workshop (SYW)-A week-long gathering of youth from across the Synod of the Sun, SYW is held for a week each summer at the University of Tulsa. Youth participate in small and large group activities, as well as worship and service projects. Those who have attended in the past say there is nothing else like it, and that it is a meaningful experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.
- Annual mission trips-Each summer, St. Andrew youth gather with youth from other Grace Presbytery churches and travel to various locations to participate in a week of intense, focused mission work. Recent trips have included the Gulf Coast area for Hurricane Harvey relief work, Denver, CO, to work with various inner city mission opportunities, and Central Texas to help rebuild after intense flooding in that area.
Please plan to join us this Sunday, November 4, for the Chili Cook Off fundraiser! Enter your best chili and you could win not only the coveted Golden Ladle, but also bragging rights for the next year! Enjoy a yummy chili lunch in Fellowship Hall after church! Experience food, fun, and fellowship, and make a donation to support our youth and these travel opportunities.
In God's grace,
Stephanie

Market for Mission
Market for Mission is only a few short weeks away. We need your jewelry (who doesn't love jewelry?!), sturdy baskets, wooden table décor, unusual gift items and candles are always in demand. Natural materials and wooden items sell well. Lovely handmade scarves, caps, mittens, baby blankets and other infant items are big sellers. Think upscale, yummy, interesting, unique, intriguing, fun! Think new, unused, still in original packaging. Think gift-giving-for yourself or someone else. Please place your items in the collection boxes on the table in the Narthex. Let's make this another great Market for Mission! Have questions? Call Irma Waring, Linda Heilig, or Pat Edell.
